There is a patron at the library who regularly donates the Mayflower Society Journal when they are finished with it. Sometimes I see it come in and I always grab it, not because I'm a descendant of the Pilgrims, but because my brother has ties to members of the society from when he was chief curator of Plimoth Plantation.
Right now my brother lives in Leiden, Holland, right where the Pilgrims lived for ten years before they came over on the Mayflower. He is finishing the definitive book about the Pilgrims, and runs the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum (not just runs it, but started it and built up the collection himself).
Anyway... one other time I got the journal, there was an article he had written in it, which was cool. And the one that was donated last week had a chapter from his forthcoming book (which I hadn't yet read), and a write-up of a tour that the society members had taken to Holland and England. They did a walking tour of Leiden with Jeremy, and there were several pictures of him in the article, which is nice because I haven't seen him in six years.
Too bad the journal donor will never know how much I appreciate having that copy. And the coincidence of the whole thing, which is really pretty weird if you think about it much.
