Webster's, 1941

One thing I picked up tonight at the auction discards is a 1941 boxed edition of Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, 1941. The spine was gone, but the box and inside covers had a really lovely marbleized paper covering. And of course, the illustrations are great. I'll probably use some of them for some art projects (not related to mandalas).
Some of the "New Words" are interesting-- here are a few of the words listed for the first time: amphetamine, ascorbic acid, barbecue, Black Shirt, Brown Shirt, concentration camp, fascism, fifth column(ist), Iron Guard, Mickey Finn, Nazi, neutrino, parapsychology, Reichsfurer, swastika, Third Reich, and video.
Isn't it cool that the entry for "knots" actually shows you how to tie some basic knots?
